The Pennsylvania Utility Commission has jurisdiction over the many electric distribution companies and electric supply companies that serve the majority of the Commonwealth. By regulating electric utilities and balancing the needs of consumers and the industry, the PUC aims to ensure safe and reliable service at reasonable rates.

Cooperatives and Municipal Utilities

Rural electric cooperatives and most utilities owned and operated by cities, boroughs or townships are not regulated by the Commission. For information on these, contact the electric co-op, Pennsylvania Rural Electric Association, or your local municipality.
